Dr. Ram Krishna Modi

A famous Allergy Specialist (Allergist) and Chest Physician working at Dr. Modi's Clinic of Allergy and Asthma, Modi Nursing Home, Rajendra Nagar, Patna, (Bihar), left for heavenly abode on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 03:45 p. m. at his residence in Patna.

Dr. R. K. Modi was a fellow and senior faculty member of Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology. He was the Organizing Secretary of two annual conventions and elected twice as the Vice President of Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology. His main field of work had been skin tests, immunotherapy, and clinical research in allergic disorders. He had published around 40 research papers in various national journals. Dr. R. K Modi was the active and regular participant in the annual Allergy Conventions of ICAAI. And was Life Fellow of Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology, Indian Academy of Allergy and Asthma Foundation of India and also a Life Member of Indian Chest Society. He was also the Convenor of East Zone Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology and fully involved in organizing and conducting scientific and awareness programs on allergy. He is credited for doing intradermal skin tests and allergen immunotherapy on more than 10,000 cases of nasobronchial and dermal allergy.

He was born at Lohardaga (Jharkhand) on January 21, 1938. He got his primary education at Lohardaga, I. Sc. at Ranchi and was enrolled for medical education at P. W. Medical College in 1957 and graduated in 1962. He was a bright student and was well known for his deep interest in dramatics, music, and art. Apart from several awards, recently, he was felicitated with “Samaj Ratna” by Bihar Pradeshik Marwari Sammelan. He did D. T. C. D. from Patna University and M. D. from Magadh University under the guidance of Padma VibhushCol. R. Vishwanathan, Founder Director, V. P. Chest Institute, Delhi University and worked under him as Research Officer for 7 years at Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna.

After working on several posts in the Department of Medicine at Nalanda Medical College and Patna Medical College, he was superannuated as Prof. of Medicine from Patna Medical College in January 1996. During his work period, he was associated with the epidemiological work on bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and coal workers' pneumoconiosis. “Prevalence of bronchial asthma in the rural and urban area of Patna” published in 1966 was quoted as sample prevalence of asthma in India in various allergy books and journals. He was involved in the editorial board of “Medicine Update” and “Journal of Indian College of Allergy and Applied Immunology.”

He was a dedicated person for social service at Marwari Chikitsa Sewa Samiti, Arogya Mandir Hospital, Friends of Tribals Society and several other organizations.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Pramila Modi, a renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and two sons and daughter-in-laws, grandchildren and all in the medical fraternity. He leaves behind a huge score of satisfied and grateful patients, family, friends, and well-wishers. Though Dr. R. K. Modi is not present now in this world physically, his soul will stimulate all persons pursuing allergy and immunotherapy in India. We pray to the almighty for giving peace to his pious soul.
